Homework will be given out on a Friday and handed back in the following Friday.
Homework consists of:
Spellings- to be completed using the 'look, cover, write, check' method.
Times table- each week a focus times table will be given, children are encouraged to learn this and the corresponding division facts for an extra challenge!
Spelling & Times table Test
Weekly spellings are set on a Friday and tested the following Friday. I give the children some time to practise these during the week, however, they should also be practising regularly at home. On the reverse of the sheet, there will be space for your child to put each spelling into a sentence. This helps to consolidate their learning and understanding by putting the spellings into context. The spelling sheets will be collected in every Friday (the day of the spelling test).
By the end of Year 2, children should have instant recall of the 2, 5 and 10 times table and by the end of Year 3, they should have instant recall of the 3, 4 and 8 times table. Weekly times table tests will take place every Friday and the times table your child should be focusing on can be found on the weekly spelling sheet. If you have access to times table rockstars at home, this is a great way of practising. There are also many online games and apps to support children with learning their times tables. It is really beneficial to ask your child to randomly recall times tables facts, whether this is in the car, whilst cooking dinner or whenever suits you! Please do see me if this is something your child is struggling with as I can provide support/ideas to help at home. You can find your child’s TTRS login on the inside page of their reading journal.
We complete Guided Reading sessions daily in school and we will endeavour to read 1:1 with your child once a week - we will keep a record of this in school. In addition to Guided Reading sessions and 1:1 reads, the children will be encouraged to read independently on a daily basis in school and at home. We are able to bring reading books to and from school according to government guidelines for Covid 19 and your child can change their book up to two times per week. Reading journals will be handed out to your child at the start of the new term for you to record your child’s reads at home. Please can we ask that these journals are kept at home until the final week of each half term when we will collect them in to count your child’s home reads and provide an end of half term comment. We will then hand the journal back to your child at the start of each new half term. Please ensure that your child continues to bring their book bag in on a daily basis, with only their current reading book inside (not their reading journal).
Our PE day will be a Tuesday so that is the day your child will need to come into school in their P.E kit. All P.E sessions will take place outside, so please ensure your child is wearing joggers and a hoodie during colder weather.
