Useful Class information

PE Days

Our PE days are currently Monday and Tuesday. Therefore, children will need to come to school dressed in their PE kits on these two days.

Homework

Spellings and times tables will be set every Friday and tested the following Friday. These will be sent home on a sheet of paper each week. Pupils are given many different strategies and techniques to enable them to be successful spellers as we appreciate that children learn in a variety of ways.

Times Tables

The Year 4 multiplication test takes place during a three-week window in June. Children are expected to know all times tables facts up to 12 x 12 and be able to recall these within 6 seconds. We will be having a weekly times table test on a Friday and it is expected that these will be practised at home. The times table your child should be focusing on can be found on the weekly spelling sheet sent home with them. If you have access to Times Table Rockstars at home, this is a great way of practising - log in details can be found in class, just come and ask! There are also many online games and apps to support children with learning their times tables such as 10 minutes a day. It is really beneficial to ask your child to randomly recall times tables facts, whether this is in the car, whilst cooking dinner or whenever suits you! Please do see me if this is something your child is struggling with as I can provide support/ideas to help at home.

Reading

At Lilleshall, we focus on the importance of reading for enjoyment as well as to further our knowledge of the world. Pupils should be reading as often as possible in order for reading to become embedded as part of their daily lives as it is a skill for life. We value parental encouragement as we recognise that input from parents is vital in raising the profile of reading. We ask that children are reading at least three times per week at home.
