We had a thoroughly enjoyable and informative day today visiting Stafford Castle. We began the day by walking through the grounds where the outer and inner bailey would have been. Then we pretended to charge up to the motte, imagining what it would have been like to try and attack the castle keep. We then walked round the ruins of the keep looking at the view and discussing how easy it would have been to spot enemies heading towards the castle in Norman Times. We then minted coins before having our lunch. After lunch we were learning all about the Battle of Hastings and then trying on chain mail, helmets and costumes and looking at weapons including arrows, swords and shields. We then made our own lavender bags. We all agreed it had been a fabulous day.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
