Year 3/4 visit to Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge
As part of our Victorian unit of work, Years 3 and 4 visited Blists Hill in Ironbridge, a working Victorian museum. We were able to experience what life was like for children living in the late 1800’s. We met townsfolk who were able to tell us all about their businesses such as the bank, the post office, the dentist, the doctors, the bakers, the grocers and the sweet shop. We learnt all about the mining industry and we even visited a Victorian school where we experienced how strict Victorian teachers were! We visited authentic Victorian cottages, some which we definitely wouldn’t have liked to have lived in or to have used the outside toilet! It was very interesting to see the difference between the way the rich and poor lived. We also learned all about the use of candles in the Victorian era and got to have a go at candle dipping ourselves. What a fascinating day!
