All About Henri Rousseau : Look at the paintings (from the Photo Pack)
What does a good plant or flower in colour look like ? What are the differences between the images? How would you describe their shapes?
Now have a go at making an observational drawing of a plant in coloured pencil/oil pastel. Start the drawing in the middle of the paper and work outwards. Make sure you do a big enough drawing so that the detail can be seen. Look for different types of marks e.g. hard, soft, light, heavy, jagged, smooth…and experiment with colours. Think about how Rousseau showed the same basic colours (greens) in different ways, by blending with other colours e.g. yellow, brown…
Think about these key skills when researching and drawing:
I can choose colours appropriately for the drawing.
I can produce a drawing that shows I have looked many times at the colours in the photograph.
I can tell you the names of at least two pieces of Rousseau’s artwork.
I can tell you two interesting facts about Rousseau’s life.
I can share something interesting about his work.
