It is now a requirement that all pupils will exit KS2 being able to competently swim 25metres. Mrs McCormick and Miss Field have attended an amateur swimming training session to support the schools provision in swimming.
The school has also signed up to ASA Swimming which includes access to a wide range of resources. With the introduction of PE funding the local authority are no longer paying for transport to and from swimming.
Lilleshall is now subsidising transport to and from Newport swimming baths using monies from the PE funding and have budgeted £1000 for this academic year. The cost of transport will therefore need to be factored into expenditure for forthcoming years.
Year 3 & 4 are currently swimming on a Monday afternoon and years 5 & 6 will swim on Monday afternoons after half term. This has enabled us to give a longer more focused session in the pool and we have seen progress in their ability as a result.
Telford and Wrekin Aquasplash Gala
8 children from years 3 and 4 had a truly exciting afternoon on Friday 15th April. We visited Wrekin College swimming pool along with 5 other schools to compete in a a number of events. Each child took part in a range of fun and challenging races, working brilliantly as a team. The 7 events were named: Water Polo Push, Gee-up Noodle, Balancing act, Blowtastic, Noodle race, Treasure hunt and the 25 metre freestyle. Two of our children - Millie and Phoebe came first in the 25 metre friendly race. All of the children who participated in the event from our school were exceptionally well behaved and enjoyed the gala immensely. Certificates will be issued to celebrate their achievement of coming 3rd place overall. However when it came to getting showered and changed our boys most definitely need a little more practise in order to beat the girls!
